Ignis is a high level version of Cerberus, requiring multiple combat styles to be fought effectively. As such, it is recommended to have high Prestige levels across multiple combat styles, as well as Key Stone talents to supplement offstyles. A slayer task for Hellhounds or a boss slayer task for Cerberus is recommended, as is demonbane equipment such as the Demonite Defender.

Ignis shares several uniques with Cerberus, dropping everything except the Dragon metal lump, Dragon metal shard, and Dragon metal slice, instead dropping the unique Hellhide and Cerberite core which are used to create strong demonbane equipment in the form of the Cerberite slayer helmet, Cerberite grippers, and Cerberite warhammer.

Requirements

Hard requirements

Recommendations

  • Minimum Prestige 7 in your main combat style and Prestige 5 in offstyles. This can be lower if exploiting Weaknesses.
  • Minimum T90 gear or higher across all three styles.
  • Hellhound or Cerberus boss slayer task.
  • Talents as detailed in Recommended talents.

Getting there

Ignis can be challenged by using a Key master teleport scroll, which can be purchased from the Slayer Point Store or received as a drop from Cerberus. Permanent access can be unlocked by combining 50 Key master teleports with the Key master's key obtained as a reward from the "Doombringer" achievement. Players can then use the "Enter (hard mode)" option on the winch in the Cerberus lair.

To access the Cerberus lair, use the Portal nexus located north of spawn. Under bosses, find Cerberus.

Mechanics

Basic Attacks

Similarly to Cerberus, Ignis has three basic attacks:

  • A projectile Ranged attack, in which Ignis stands on its hind legs and fires a spiked ball;
  • A projectile Mage attack, in which Ignis lowers its head and fires a smooth, round ball;
  • A ground attack, in which Ignis shakes its head and summons lava under the player.
A player switching prayers against Ignis' projectile combo attack.

As with Cerberus, the Ranged/Mage attack have audio cues to help differentiate between attacks.

These attacks also have harder variants; Ignis will now occasionally attack with three projectiles in quick succession, requiring all hits to be prayer flicked or will inflict up to 46 damage and cause the player to lose prayer points.

The ground attack is also much more deadly compared to normal mode cerberus, potentially hitting multiple hitsplats of up to 40 damage rapidly. It is not uncommon to see multiple hits in the same tick, which can quickly cause deaths if not paying attention. The ground attack also comes in two new patterns:

  • A single 3x3 explosion centered under the player;
  • A trail of lava puddles placed under the player, placing one puddle each tick for 10 ticks.

Due to the strict timing of these mechanics, it is recommended to select a world with the lowest ping from the August plugin. Furthermore, using the 'Tile Indicators' plugin to show the true tile of the player may assist with avoiding the lava pools.

Note that using dragonfire protection will not lower the damage dealt by the pools.

Ghosts

Ignis will summon ghosts twice throughout the fight, once at approximately 6400 HP and again at 3000 HP. These are identical to the ghosts summoned by Cerberus; they must be defeated using the style they are praying against. Players should exercise caution when dealing with the ghosts and switching gear as Ignis can still perform the projectile combo attacks and ground attacks while the ghosts are summoned.

Due to their low HP and defensive stats, players may opt to only swap their weapon when dealing with the ghosts, allowing them to more effectively focus on basic attacks from Ignis.

Forms

Ignis is capable of swapping between four forms:

  • A typeless form, in which Ignis is vulnerable to all types of damage. Ignis starts in this form.
  • A Melee form, in which Ignis will turn a paler shade of red;
  • A Ranged form, in which Ignis will turn green;
  • A Magic form, in which Ignis will turn blue.

Ignis will only be vulnerable to the damage type matching it's form, eg. Ranged must be used on the Ranged form.

Players may also struggle to tell the differences between the typeless form and the Melee form, as they are both similar shades of red. Players can distinguish by looking at the color of Ignis's eyes; red eyes indicate Melee form, whereas white eyes indicate the typeless form.

Ignis appears to change type randomly, and there is no damage requirement to cause Ignis to change forms.

Recommended talents

The recommended combat style for Ignis is Magic or Ranged (exploiting weaknesses). Melee is only advised for players who are confident in dealing with Ignis's lava pools, as placing these around the boss may limit DPS unless the Reach Around talent is used.

Other talent considerations as follows:

It is recommended to use talents focused on survivability.

DPS talents will not be specifically mentioned here; talents mentioned are of note specifically due to their increase in player survivability. It is assumed that players will be able to mix and match these with DPS talents depending on their current comfort level with the boss.

Talents Talents (Minimum Required)
Tier 1 Standard DPS talents.
Tier 2 Fortification, Resilience I
Tier 3 PvM tree: Draining Strikes
Skilling tree: Food Seasoning (I), Small Mouth, Fast Eater
Tier 4 PvM tree: Standard DPS talents.
Skilling tree: Food Seasoning (II), Pointy Helmet (If on task)
Tier 5 PvM tree: Absolute Unit, Resilience II
Utility tree: Guardian Angel
Tier 6 Standard DPS talents.
Tier 7 (Keystone) Pick depending on strongest offstyle.

Players that are more experienced with the fight may wish to drop some of the defensive talents listed previously in favor of more offensive options. Considerations when picking talents have been listed below.

Note that this is not an exhaustive list of all options; just because a talent is not listed here does not mean it is not viable. Players are encouraged to use this as a starting point and experiment with other options as they learn the boss.

Talent Considerations

Aggression
Aggression represents a large increase in damage if exploiting weaknesses. However as it will lock players out of Resilience i/ii (meaning a total of 55% extra damage taken), it should only be taken by those experienced with the fight.

Precision
Strong choice if exploiting weaknesses. No drawbacks besides talent point costs.

Unholy
While players may be able to outheal the damage done if using Resilience i/ii and various forms of passive healing, it is fairly difficult to upkeep this during phase changes and ghost phases. As such it is generally not recommended outside of trying for the Spice Lover achievement.

Guardian
As of the July 15th patch the Guardian will now correctly change forms on all phases of Ignis and when targeting ghosts, making this a very solid choice for the encounter.

Executioner
Executioner is a solid choice given Ignis's large health pool. However it can sometimes be tricky to use if Ignis phase changes under 20% and becomes immune to range damage.

Berserker
In theory, players can take 0 damage from this fight if everything is done correctly. However in practice this may be tricky to maintain due to ghosts/puddles. While staying at 1hp is not necessary for Berserker to be strong, this is only really recommended for confident players or those looking to utilise the Masori (f) set effect.

Reach Around
Reach around can be nice if meleeing, however you should only really be meleeing if exploiting weaknesses and this locks out Aggression. Doesn't mean it's not viable, but at this point mage/range just feel like stronger options. Very much a comfort pick for those that are really set on using melee.

Is this thing on?
Viable if not camping low HP and have enough healing from passive sources.

Example Kill

Equipment

As all three combat styles are required to kill the boss optimally, players should bring as many switches as they are comfortable handling.

Tribrid equipment such as Gem armor may help with lowering the amount of switches required, however players should exercise caution due to the armor's lower defensive stats.

Slayer helmet(i) and other cosmetic variants are highly recommended as they provide a 15% strength and 12% accuracy to all styles, serving as both a large damage boost and tribrid equipment.

The Cerberite Slayer Helmet should be used over any other slayer helm, as Ignis is considered a demon. Note that the bonus damage to demons applies to all styles.

Slayer helmet (i) and other cosmetic variants:
The Slayer helmet provides a 15% strength and 12% accuracy (all combat styles) increase when fighting monsters assigned as your Slayer task. While it offers no combat advantages against non-task creatures, it's the optimal choice during any Slayer assignment. Consider switching to alternative headgear when battling monsters outside your assigned task.
