Scurrius is an entry-level boss aimed at introducing players to common mechanics that are found in bossing, namely switching protection prayers, dodging falling objects, and dealing with additional mobs during the fight. It also consists of multiple phases that have slightly altered mechanics.
He rarely drops the Scurrius' spine, a unique item used in the creation of useful weapons for each combat style: The Bone mace, Bone shortbow and Bone staff. These weapons can be tempered, and also can be equipped with no requirements, making them effective in training combat skills after Prestige.

Quick Guide
- Phase 1 (100%-80% HP): Protect from Melee and dodge Rockfall.
- Healing phases: Scurrius heals at a food pile and may use Magic, Ranged, Rockfall, or summon rats. He does not use melee while eating.
- Summoned rats: Kill them quickly. Bone weapons attack rats every tick and instantly kill them.
- Phase 2 (80%-40% HP): Similar to Phase 1, but rats can now be summoned outside of healing phases.
- Phase 3 (below 30% HP): Scurrius attacks faster and uses Magic, Ranged, Rockfall, and Summons.
Mechanics
Scurrius attacks with all three combat styles. Scurrius additionally has some special abilities.
Attacks
- Melee: Scurrius spins and swipes with his tail, dealing damage immediately.
- Protect from Melee before he starts this attack.
- Magic: Scurrius flickers with a blue light and sends a bolt of blue lightning towards the player.
- Protect from Magic before the projectile hits.
- Ranged: Scurrius nods sideways and sends a green bundle of furballs towards the player.
- Protect from Ranged before the projectile hits.
Specials
- Rockfall: Scurrius jumps up and down, causing rocks to fall on the tiles indicated by shadows.
- One will always target the player’s current location.
- Summons: Scurrius squeals in the air, summoning six aggressive rats that attack the player using melee.
- Protect from Melee negates all damage.
- The player will always hit their maximum hit when attacking a rat, and each rat has 30 HP.
- Bone weapons attack rats with no delay and instantly kill them.
- Healing: Scurrius moves to a food pile and recovers HP up to five times.
- While healing he will not use melee attacks, except straight after the final heal.
- He will use Magic, Ranged, Rockfall or Summons at random.

Tips & Tricks
- If Summons are used before, or during Healing Phase or Fight Phase 3, it is highly recommended to camp Protect from Melee and briefly flick to Protect from Mage/Ranged only when Scurrius' attacks will land, as the summoned rats will do considerable damage if ignored. As this can be difficult, the summoned rats should be prioritised over Scurrius.
- The summoned rats can be stacked on top of each other and are vulnerable to AOE attacks, such as Ancient Magicks.
- Bone Weapons can attack them without delay.
- The combat achievement Perfect Scurrius, gives a guaranteed reward of Scurrius’ Spine, which is used in making Bone Weapons. This is a great early game reward to aim for.
- To pass the achievement, you must complete a kill under these conditions:
- Correctly pray against Scurrius’ standard attacks (melee, magic or ranged)
- Dodge every Rockfall
- You can take damage from Summons and still get the achievement, but proceed with caution at lower levels as their damage adds up.
Equipment
Slayer helmet (i) and other cosmetic variants:
The Slayer helmet provides a 15% strength and 12% accuracy (all combat styles) increase when fighting monsters assigned as your Slayer task. While it offers no combat advantages against non-task creatures, it's the optimal choice during any Slayer assignment. Consider switching to alternative headgear when battling monsters outside your assigned task.
