Scurrius is an entry-level boss aimed at introducing players to common mechanics that are found in bossing, namely switching protection prayers, dodging falling objects, and dealing with additional mobs during the fight. It also consists of multiple phases that have slightly altered mechanics.

He rarely drops the Scurrius' spine, a unique item used in the creation of useful weapons for each combat style: The Bone mace, Bone shortbow and Bone staff. These weapons can be tempered, and also can be equipped with no requirements, making them effective in training combat skills after Prestige.

Requirements

None.

Recommended: Level 43 Prayer Icon Prayer for protection prayers against each style.

Getting there

Use the Portal nexus located north of spawn. Under Bossing (Early-game) find Scurrius.

Travel fee: None.

Mechanics

Scurrius attacks with all three combat styles. Scurrius additionally has some special abilities.

Attacks

  • Melee: Scurrius spins and swipes with his tail, dealing damage immediately.
    • Protect from Melee gives full protection but must be activated before he starts this attack.
  • Magic: Scurrius flickers with a blue light and sends a bolt of blue lightning towards the player.
    • Protect from Magic gives full protection but must be activated before the projectile hits.
  • Ranged: Scurrius nods sideways and sends a green bundle of furballs towards the player.
    • Protect from Ranged gives full protection but must be activated before the projectile hits.

Specials

  • Rockfall: Scurrius jumps up and down, causing rocks to fall on the tiles indicated by shadows.
    • One will always target the player’s current location.
    • If hit by a rock, the player takes damage that cannot be prayed against.
  • Summons: Scurrius squeals in the air, summoning six aggressive rats that attack the player using melee.
    • Protect from Melee negates all damage.
    • The player will always hit their maximum hit when attacking a rat, and each rat has 30 HP.
    • Bone weapons can attack these rats with an attack speed of 1 tick, and will instantly kill them.
    • Scurrius will never recast Summons if at least one rat is still alive.
  • Healing: Scurrius moves to a food pile and eats up to five times, recovering HP each time.
    • For the duration he will not use melee attacks, except it may be used immediately after the final heal.
    • He will choose either an attack or special at random, between heals (Magic, Ranged, Rockfall or Summons)

The Fight

Consists of three major phases, divided by Scurrius' Healing ability which are intermittent phases.

Fight Phase 1

Scurrius will either use a melee attack or a Rockfall special attack in this phase. Players should use Protect from Melee and dodge the falling rocks as needed.

After reaching 80% HP, Scurrius will start his Healing special and move towards a food pile.

Heal Phase

Scurrius restores health up to five times while Healing is in effect.

Scurrius will use either a magic attack, a ranged attack, a Rockfall special, or a Summons special, at random during this phase.

The healing phase will end early if Scurrius heals to over 80% HP.

Fight Phase 2

When Scurrius stops eating, he will resume following the player.

He may use a melee attack, a Rockfall special, or a Summons special, at random during this phase.

After reaching 40% HP, Scurrius will start his Healing special again, moving towards a food pile.

Heal Phase

Scurrius restores health up to five times while Healing is in effect.

Scurrius will use either a magic attack, a ranged attack, a Rockfall special, or a Summons special, at random during this phase.

The healing phase will end early if either:

  • Scurrius heals to over 40% HP -- Return to Fight Phase 2
  • Scurrius drops to below 30% HP -- Proceed to Fight Phase 3

Fight Phase 3

After reaching 30% HP, Scurrius moves to the centre of the arena.

Scurrius will use either a magic attack, a ranged attack, a Rockfall special, or a Summons special, at random during this phase.

It is important to note that Scurrius attacks at a faster pace during this phase.

******Tips & Tricks*******

**********Suitable section for a guide? -NG*********

  • If Summons are used before, or during Healing Phase or Fight Phase 3, it is highly recommended to camp Protect from Melee and briefly flick to Protect from Mage/Ranged only when Scurrius' attacks will land, as the summoned rats will do considerable damage if ignored. As this can be difficult, the summoned rats should be prioritised over Scurrius.
    • The summoned rats can be stacked on top of each other and are vulnerable to AOE attacks, such as Ancient Magicks.
    • Bone Weapons can attack them without delay.
  • The combat achievement Perfect Scurrius, gives a guaranteed reward of Scurrius’ Spine, which is used in making Bone Weapons. This is a great early game reward to aim for.
    • To pass the achievement, you must complete a kill under these conditions:
      • Correctly pray against Scurrius’ standard attacks (melee, magic or ranged)
      • Dodge every Rockfall
    • You can take damage from Summons and still get the achievement, but proceed with caution at lower levels as their damage adds up.
