August's talent system allows you to tailor your player power to the content you're working on, with your character growing stronger as you gain more talent points.

The guides provided in this section do not account for "situational utility" type talents such as Antifire or Antipoison. If you're fighting a boss that requires these, take them as necessary.

Your First 50 Talent Points

The first 50 talent points spent are going to be very similar for most builds, focusing on setting up a solid foundation for the early game.

Tier 1

  • Depending on the attack style you want to focus on, pick one of Double Cast, Fluid Strikes, or Quick Shot.
  • Put your 4 next points into Deft Strikes for bonus accuracy, and to unlock Tier 2 talents.

Tier 2

  • Put at least one point into the DPS increase/proc talents for your spec:
    • Melee:
      • Feral Fighter
      • Note: It is not recommended to put points into Giant Slayer early on, as you will not encounter many large, low level enemies.
    • Ranged:
      • Ruthless Ranger
      • Headshot
    • Magic:
      • Elementalist
      • Menacing Mage
  • Focus on Consistency next, 5 levels of this talent will mean your minimum hit is 5, a huge DPS and xp gain boost.
  • Fill out the Combat XP talent, as more levels gained means more talent points to spend.

From here, it's recommended to focus on filling out your DPS talents in Tier 2 until you unlock Tier 3 talents.

Tier 3

Your first picks into Tier 3 depend on a few factors:

  • If you're playing an ironman, or want to start collecting extra gems and keys early, focus on Treasure Goblins.
  • If you want to focus on slayer and get to pick your slayer tasks, focus on Unnatural Selection.
  • If you want to work toward sustaining infinite prayer, focus on Renewal in Tier 2, with Holey Vestments in Tier 3.
  • If you're maging using runes and want to save gold/time Runecrafting, focus on Runic Efficiency
  • If you're ranging and using arrows/bolts/darts and want to reduce your ammo usage, focus on Bottomless Quiver

Builds later on, particularly once you start bossing, will want to include talents like Draining Strikes, however, early game bosses and Slayer are best done with prayer to avoid using food, with Renewal and Holey Vestments being sufficient to sustain overhead prayers permanently.
