Patch notes/May 18 2025
Summary
This major update focuses on improving the new player experience with a free starter crate, updated refer rewards, and upgraded starter weapons that provide XP boosts and scaling stats. The update also introduces practice modes for Hard Mode Cerberus and Zulrah, and includes various interface improvements and bug fixes.
QOL / Bug fixes
The new loot interface will no longer close when you get attacked The new loot interface's search functionality should be much more usable now, with less weird partial query matches showing up Azrael's pet upgrade crystal drop rate has been revealed Pets will no longer get stuck in combat when you call them to you The instanced KBD version now counts for KBD slayer tasks The friends list should no longer malfunction and hold onto people you try to delete Several instances have been adjusted to ask for what instance type you want (solo/gim/party) before you pay the entry toll Several instances have been adjusted to no longer have an extra tick delay before entry
Testing something
A lot of people have requested something like this, so we're giving it a shot and seeing how it goes: Lesser Pandora's Essence has been added to the in-game donator shop for august credits While this test is running and we gather feedback, it will not be made a promotional item - so there is no benefit to stockpiling them and waiting
Other changes
Olympian loot chests have had a reskin ahead of TOB being released so they are more fitting to the Olympian vibe, and don't look the same as the TOB chests
- Additionally, they now use a shared purple chest system. This may fix some of the issues with weird chest scenarios in Olympian raids
Bunny jars have been removed from the donator store The seren model is no longer chocolatey Monthly vote rewards can now be updated without a server reboot "Giant Slayer" has had its talent description updated to explicitly state how it's a melee-only talent
Starter experience revamp
We're wanting to address the issues that are commonly reported where players are struggling to get stuck into the game, so we're bringing a few key changes that we think you'll like!
New ::starter
crate
Use the command ::starter
to grab yourself a free crate to help give you a bit of a boost. You'll need to have voted for August on Runelocus with ::vote
to be able to open it.
These can only be obtained and opened once per account! As always, anybody caught abusing this by spam making accounts and redeeming will be punished accordingly with permanent bans.
The contents:
$25 rank book Untradeable 10x talent point orbs Pet ferret, which gives you a 2.5% XP boost to every skill 10k XP lamp Festive mulled wine, which gives you a random big buff Some XP tokens Some sharks and prayer pots A free gathering animation override
Updated ::refer
mystery box loot
Everyone will be able to use ::refer
again to receive the updated mystery box!
The contents:
200k coins + xp tokens 2x festive mulled wine 1x untradeable talent spec orb 20k XP lamp Some super combat pots and super restores
Revamped Starter Weapons
The starter weapons have received a makeover and now look a bit more August-ey! Additionally, they will provide 2 very key buffs:
Starting at level 1, you will receive 3x XP with the corresponding skill(s), dropping back down to no boost by the time you hit level 70 The stats will now upgrade up to 3x the base stats at level 70
These will work across prestiges, and we're hoping that it gives a nice bit of a boost to the early-mid game experience where levelling is super important!
Hard Mode Cerb/Zulrah Accessibility
NOTE: Hard mode Nex does not have a practice mode because it is free to enter currently, so we see no need there. We've heard you, and thought long and hard, and discussed potential options around these hard mode bosses. We didn't want to make the bosses easier. That goes against what we hope to achieve with them, giving opportunity for players who want a challenge to be challenged. The issue we are looking to address is around accessibility. Particularly around the psychology at play with the cost to enter the boss when you don't even know anything about it. That's why we've decided to give access to a practice hard mode version of the fight.
The mechanics are exactly the same There is a small cost of 500 boss tokens to enter There will be no loot awarded from killing the boss This will be a safe death for hardcores Practice Hard Mode Cerberus requires the 250 KC achievement to enter Practice Hard Mode Zulrah requires the 500 KC achievement to enter
We will keep eyes on how this goes, as we'd love for more people to be able to get their hands dirty with the content and obtain some of that top level gear!
