How to help out

We appreciate your interest in helping to flesh out the August Wiki. In an effort to reduce redundancy, we have introduced some automation into the Wiki to speed up the process. However, with that automation comes some guidelines that everyone will need to follow. Please read below for details on which pages you should and should not be editing.

Do Not Edit

For all Equipment, Fightable NPC, or Shop/Store pages, they are updated automatically by Python scripts. This means that every time a new piece of Equipment Fightable NPC, or Shop/Store is added, ALL pages are forcibly updated - NOT just new ones!
This means all manual edits to these pages are deleted as the entire page is overwritten by the scripts. Examples of these pages are:

• Weapons/Armor/Jewelry
  • Scythe of vitur
  • Bandos chestplate
  • Occult necklace
• Shops/Stores
  • Skilling Token Store
• Boss and other fightable NPCs
  • Commander Zilyana
  • Greater demon

What if something should be changed?

If you do find something on one of the above pages you'd like to see changed, put your change request in the #Wiki-Contributors Discord channel and tag Bark or Steve so we can add these changes to the script. This will prevent any changes you want to make from being deleted on the next refresh cycle.

Do Edit

• Pages that are related to Items in the game can be edited, like Bottomless Overload, or $5 Bond
  • IMPORTANT NOTE: If you find a page that is a red link (page does not exist), please put in a page request in the #Wiki-Contributors Discord channel and tag Bark or Steve so we can generate the page for you.
  • A barebones page that will include the item image, drop sources, recipes, etc. will be generated for you. From there, any description text for the item can be manually added.

• Custom pages related to content or systems that August offers. This includes things like:
  • Boss Strategy Guides
  • Skill Guides
  • Raids information
  • Starter Guide(s)
  • Prestige Information
  • Talent points/systems
  • Voting

All of these are examples of pages that explain how August and its content works, as opposed to raw data like drop rates, crafting recipes, or NPC data.
Additionally, we have specific pages marked as Category:todo-contributor that are safe to edit.

Editing Tips

• For guidelines on how pages should be written, check out the Style Guide.
• If a page is incomplete, add the {{UnderConstruction}} template to the top of the page to indicate it as such.
• A helpful activity would be to check the list of Category:todo-contributor or Category:todo pages. These are specifically pages we are looking for Wiki Contributor input on.
  • Additionally, creating Redirects is a huge help for players trying to index the wiki. For information on this, see August:Redirects.
• To follow the changes to this wiki, use recent changes.
• You can find a detailed list of useful templates in Category:Templates.
