Update from Feb 28 2025

Slayer Locked Ironman Mode downgrading change

When the Slayer Locked mode released, the ironman mode downgrading system didn't support not letting you completely de-iron.

This system has been upgraded now to support this case, so Slayer Locked players can now downgrade their ironman mode in some cases, but none can fully de-iron still.

New upgradeable pets

In the donator store, there are now two new pets that have different effects aaaaand can be upgraded!

Baby AFK pet

A new pet on the donator store online, is the Baby AFK pet.

This pet is upgraded to a Teen AFK pet after being fed 20 Sheep Food, and a fully grown AFK pet after another 100 Sheep Food.

  • Sheep Food can be purchased in the AFK zone store!

The pets give 15%, 30%, and 50% XP boosts for all AFK zone XP gained.

Baby pet pet

The Baby pet pet, Teen pet pet, and Pet pet, all boost your pet pet chance, at the cost of taking up the pet pet slot that your typical combat pet pets would take up!

Pet pets have an expensive appetite though, and eat August Tokens for a chance to be upgraded!

The pet pets give a 10%, 15%, and 20% boost to pet rate while following you.

  • They also have the same pity system as the AFK pets, so you're more likely to get the upgrade the more you feed it!

Rates
Base: 1/150 to upgrade per august token
Pity boosts:

  • After 50 attempts: 2x rate
  • After 100 attempts: 3x rate
  • After 150 attempts: 4x rate
  • After 200 attempts: 6x rate

Woof woof doggie doggie bark bark

Firstly, not a new pet, but the existing Stray Dog pet now can be fed "Home ham", with a chance each time you feed it to upgrade into the new Homeful dog!

Now I know that it can be pretty brutal when it comes to RNG. I've implemented a pity system which will increase your upgrade success chance at certain thresholds, significantly increasing the likelihood to get the upgraded pet.

  • By significantly I mean like 2x, then 3x, then 4x, then 6x chance at the different thresholds.

Home ham can be purchased in the vote shop for 5 vote tokens a pop. Make sure you vote so you can feed your damn dog!

The Homeful dog's special effect is that it will not just auto bank your bones - it will auto bury them instead!

  • This does work with Boner Boost, meaning you can get the optimal bone XP passively while you're focusing on your other combat stats. (The prayer restoration effect also works from Boner Boost here.)

Rates:
Base: 1/150 to upgrade per home ham
Pity boosts:

  • After 50 attempts: 2x rate
  • After 100 attempts: 3x rate
  • After 150 attempts: 4x rate
  • After 200 attempts: 6x rate

AFK zone changes

  • A bug fix: the sleepy cap will only add the XP boost for AFK zone object actions, instead of all xp gained while inside the zone.
  • Thieving safes have been added so you can now train Thieving while (even more?) AFK!
  • Herblore tables have been added, meaning you can now AFK train your Herblore up.

Item sacrifice system

With 79 new perks to make you stronger and enhance your gameplay, the end game of August has changed more than it ever has.

Exploit NPC weaknesses even more

  • Spawn more superior slayer creatures
  • Insta-kill your slayer task mobs
  • Gain skilling XP and resources faster than ever before
  • And much much more!

With 10 different categories of perks, this update not only makes you stronger and enhances your gameplay. It also brings value to so many items that until now have been worthless.

P.S. Every Runelocus vote claimed will give you an item that you can sacrifice for Item Sacrifice points!

Changes to damage mitigation

Click here for the graphs of how different builds face up against different milestone NPCs!

There has been a significant overhaul to how damage mitigation is calculated.

  • Damage mitigation is how much your max hit gets reduced when you're fighting something who has more defence than you have accuracy.

One problem with the old system is that, if you had high enough levels, equipment stats effectively meant nothing. This is because you could simply far out-level your opponent with prestiging, to the point that any attack or defence bonuses from your gear didn't change anything.

It was necessary to take these massive leaps in order to make room for new content that we want to bring to the table, including the new 79 perks added with the item sacrifice system. With these changes, we have a much better ability to deliver better content, faster.
Some outcomes of the new design:

  • Lower geared players fighting higher tiered enemies now stand much more of a chance! You will deal far more damage now than you did before when you're the underdog.
  • Gear upgrades are far more impactful. You don't just constantly hunt only strength bonuses - now defence and attack bonuses make a big difference!
  • Creating new content with meaningful rewards will be much easier for us to deliver - which means more updates, and less head scratching!
  • In combination with NPC weaknesses, using different weapon and attack types will actually make a difference in certain combat scenarios. Previously, you would just always take the thing which hits the highest on a max hit dummy!
  • Mechanics like sunder armour (elementalist, crush weapons), and DWH/BGS/SWH specs, now will bring a lot more value to battle than before.

The TLDR of the above^: more value from equipment and more fun and progression feel good!

NPC Weaknesses

Every single boss, and a handful of other NPCs (Slayer NPCs specifically), have been assigned specific weaknesses.

Weakness types:

  • Slash/Stab/Crush
  • Light ammunition (arrows)
  • Thrown (inc. blowpipe)
  • Heavy ammunition (ballista, crossbow)
  • Elemental (fire, water, earth, wind)
  • Ancient (smoke, ice, blood, shadow)

When exploiting a weakness of an NPC, by using the appropriate attack style(s) (NPCs can have many weaknesses), there will be two bonus effects:
Depending on how weak the NPC is to that type,

  1. You will gain up to 10 extra min hit. i.e. 50% stab weakness = +5 min hit
  2. You will bypass a certain amount of damage mitigation, meaning you can more effectively fight higher level/tier enemies

Along with the changes to damage mitigation, NPC Weaknesses bring a whole new dimension to what the best way is to go into battle, depending on where you are currently progressed.
In addition to the above, the Item Sacrifice System will also play into NPC Weaknesses, allowing you to gain even more power.

You can watch a video summarizing this here!
